The desert sun beat down, hot and bright. In the small oasis, Uma felt a quiet loneliness. She watched the shimmering air, wishing for a friend to share the long, scorching summer days.

Each morning, the heat arrived like a heavy blanket. Uma loved her home, but the quiet days stretched, long and slow. She longed for laughter and shared adventures.

Not far away, Farid the camel sighed loudly. He was a magnificent creature, but the endless heat made him terribly grumpy. His fur felt too thick, his hump too heavy.

Uma often saw Farid. He always looked so cross! One afternoon, she bravely offered him a sweet, ripe date. "Hello, Farid," she whispered softly.

Farid grumbled a low sound, then gently took the treat. He chewed slowly, his big eyes still narrowed against the sun. Uma knew he was still too hot to be truly friendly.

Uma looked up at the tall, sparse palm trees. They offered some shade, but not nearly enough. The ground between them was baked hard, and the sun beat down relentlessly.

Suddenly, an idea sparked in Uma's mind. "Farid," she said, her voice filled with newfound excitement, "what if we planted more trees? Big, leafy ones!"

Farid blinked slowly. Plant trees? In this heat? It sounded like a lot of work, and he was already so very tired. He let out another long, hot sigh.

"Imagine," Uma continued, her eyes wide, "cool, dappled shade everywhere! We could sit there, protected from the sun. The air would feel much cooler, Farid, truly!"

Farid pictured it: a cool, breezy spot, just for him. No more scorching sun on his back. His grumpy expression softened. Perhaps Uma had a good idea after all.

Together, they began. Uma carefully dug small holes, while Farid used his broad feet to clear the tough, dry earth. It was hard work under the hot sun.

They planted tiny saplings, their roots carefully tucked into the soil. Uma watered them gently from her small waterskin, hoping they would grow strong and tall.

Days turned into weeks. Uma and Farid worked steadily, sharing their water, checking on each little tree. A tiny green leaf unfurled, then another, a promise of coolness.

The little trees grew taller, their branches reaching for the sky. Small patches of shade began to appear, inviting and cool. Farid even offered a soft hum of contentment.
