Summer felt long and quiet for Jessica. She missed the noisy, joyful fun of kindergarten.
Most of all, she missed her very best friend, Luna, so very much.
They had shared the most wonderful, giggly times together in kindergarten class.
Luna had the best, loudest giggle-snorts that always made everyone else smile!
They painted bright rainbow pictures side-by-side, making colorful, happy messes.
Now, kindergarten was over. Luna had moved far away to a brand new town.
Playing alone in her room felt quiet and a little bit empty now.
Jessica's kind mom came in. "What's wrong, my sweet pea?" she asked gently.
"I miss Luna," Jessica whispered softly. "Everything just feels different now."
Mom thought for a moment, then smiled brightly. "Maybe we can send Luna a special surprise?"
Jessica's brown eyes sparkled a little. "A surprise? What kind of surprise?"
"Let's draw her a giant, colorful picture of your favorite memory together!" Mom suggested.
Jessica imagined their last kindergarten day. "The day we built the tallest, wobbly castle!"
She drew two happy girls, a towering castle, and a bright, smiling sun. "With glittery flags!"
