The Glowing Friend

Kai loved the ocean more than anything. He wore a special leg, but it never stopped his adventures.

He dreamed of discovering new sea creatures. Today, he searched for seashells, his eyes sharp and curious.

Suddenly, a tiny shimmer caught his eye. Something was tangled near a piece of old, discarded fishing rope.

It was a seahorse! But its beautiful light was dim, almost gone. It looked hurt and very, very sad.

Kai gently scooped it up in his cupped hands. 'Don't worry,' he whispered. 'My mom will know what to do.'

His mom, Dr. Lena, was a marine biologist. Her home office smelled of salt, old books, and science.

'Oh, Kai,' she said softly, examining the seahorse. 'This little one is bioluminescent, a glowing wonder.'

'Its light helps it hide and find food,' she explained. 'But its glow is fading. Do you know why?'

Kai thought hard. He remembered the beach. 'Is it… the rubbish on the beach?' he asked, remembering the tangled rope.

Dr. Lena nodded, her expression gentle but serious. 'Exactly. Pollution makes the ocean sick, and our seahorse too.'

Kai felt a pang of sadness, then a spark of determination. He looked at the seahorse. 'We have to help it, Mom!'

The next morning, Kai called his friends, Leo and Maya. 'We need your help for a super important mission!'

They met at the beach, armed with bags and gloves. 'For the seahorse!' Kai declared, leading the way.
