Hala was a quiet girl with eyes like deep brown puddles, always watching. She often felt a little small, like a tiny pebble in a big, busy world. Her messy dark hair often fell into her face as she thought.
"Hala, are you still dreaming?" her mother, Layla, would sigh, her voice tired. "There are chores to do. Don't just sit there." Layla’s dark hair was always pulled back tightly.
Hala wanted to help, but mostly she wanted a hug, or a story, or just a kind word. Instead, she often felt like a shadow, unnoticed and unheard, even in her own home.
As evening fell, Hala would press her nose against her windowpane. The sky outside was a deep, inky blue, slowly turning to black. It felt vast and endless.
One night, she saw a tiny, shimmering dot. Then another, and another! Soon, the darkness was sprinkled with countless bright jewels. What were they, these distant lights?
She tried to ask her mother, but Layla was busy on the phone, her voice low and hurried. "Not now, Hala. I'm working." Hala sighed, her question left unasked.
Hala wished she knew someone who could tell her about the stars. Someone who had time for her questions, big and small. She decided she would find out herself.
The next afternoon, Hala walked to the local library. It was a cozy place, smelling of old paper and quiet stories. She felt a little shy stepping inside.
A kind lady with soft, white hair and sparkly glasses smiled at her. "Hello, dear. Looking for a good book?" This was Mrs. Elara, the librarian.
"I... I want to know about the stars," Hala whispered. Mrs. Elara's eyes crinkled. "Ah, the universe! Come this way, little stargazer."
Mrs. Elara showed her books filled with amazing pictures. Hala learned that stars are not tiny dots, but giant, fiery balls of hot gas, millions of miles away!
She discovered that people long ago imagined pictures in the stars, connecting them to make shapes like bears or hunters. These were called constellations.
Every night now, Hala didn't just look at the sky; she *saw* it. She traced the lines of the constellations, finding the Big Dipper and Orion's Belt.
She also learned about the Moon. It didn't change shape by itself. The Moon looked different each night because of how the Sun's light hit it as it orbited Earth.
