Ekon loved his village in Nigeria. He loved the sun, the sounds, and especially his drum.
His grandfather taught him to play. "Feel the beat, Ekon," Papa Jide would say.
Then, Ekon's family moved. Far away from his village, to a big, new city.
The city was quiet, too quiet. Ekon missed his friends and the lively village sounds.
"Let's explore the park," Mama said. But Ekon just missed his old, happy days.
He watched other children play. He felt a little lost, like a drum without a rhythm.
Then, a soft sound drifted on the breeze. *Thump-thump-tap.* What could it be?
Ekon followed the sound. He pushed through leafy bushes and gasped.
A hidden drum circle! People were laughing, playing, and making wonderful music together.
An older woman, Grandma Joy, led the beat. Her eyes met Ekon's and she smiled.
Ekon felt shy, but the music pulled him. Grandma Joy patted an empty spot.
He took a deep breath. *Thump-thump-tap.* Ekon stepped into the circle.
Grandma Joy winked. "Welcome, little drummer. Feel the rhythm."
Ekon tapped his drum. *Tap-tap-boom!* His own special beat joined the others.
