Pīpī the Tūī chick lived high in a Pōhutukawa tree. His nest felt soft and warm.
He watched Mama Tūī fly gracefully. Her strong wings soared.
Pīpī flapped his tiny wings. He wished he could soar too!
One sunny morning, Pīpī tried a small hop. Flap, flap! He landed back.
Mama Tūī sang a soft song. 'You can do it,' she chirped gently.
Pīpī peered over the edge of the nest, looking down at the forest floor far below. His big eyes show a hint of worry.
He took a deep breath. Whoosh! Pīpī jumped to a branch. It wobbled!
He held on tight. 'I did it!' Pīpī chirped. Mama Tūī smiled.
Day after day, Pīpī practiced. He flapped his wings stronger and stronger.
Then came the big day. Pīpī stood at the edge. His heart thumped.
