📖 Read the Story

Professor Bumble had wild, fluffy hair. He loved his crazy lab. Beakers bubbled and wires whirred all around him. He was a very clever, but a little bit silly, scientist.

His best friend was Hazel, a tiny hamster. Hazel had twitchy whiskers and bright, beady eyes. She lived in a tall cage, watching everything.

One day, Professor Bumble finished his newest machine. It had a big horn and lots of colorful buttons. "This will translate animal talk!" he exclaimed.

He gently placed Hazel near the machine's horn. "Squeak, squeak, squeak!" went Hazel. The machine whirred, then a voice came out!

"The squirrels! They are planning a big feast!" Hazel said. Professor Bumble's spectacles nearly fell off. "They want ALL the acorns!" she squeaked.

Professor Bumble looked out the window. He saw the big oak tree, full of delicious acorns. "Oh dear! That's not fair to everyone else," he mumbled.

Hazel scampered to the windowsill, her whiskers wiggling. "We must talk to them, Professor!" she chirped. "But how?" he wondered, scratching his head.

Professor Bumble carried the machine outside. Hazel sat bravely on his shoulder, ready to help. They saw a group of busy squirrels gathering nuts.

"Squeak, chatter, chatter!" went the squirrels. The machine translated: "Winter is coming! We need many nuts!" They looked a little worried, too.

Hazel spoke into the machine: "Sharing makes everyone happy!" The squirrels tilted their heads, listening carefully. "There are enough acorns for all," she explained.
