Oliver the owl loved his books. He wore big, round glasses. They helped him read tiny words.
But Oliver had a secret. He was scared of the bright, sunny day. The light hurt his wise owl eyes.
He wished he could see the meadow. He wished he could see the colorful flowers. But the sun was too, too bright.
"Chirp, chirp!" A cheerful voice called. Rosie Robin zipped to his branch. Her red chest was bright.
"Why so glum, Oliver?" Rosie asked. "The meadow is wonderful today! Come play!"
Oliver sighed. "The sun is too bright, Rosie. My eyes can't handle it." He adjusted his big glasses.
Rosie thought and thought. "I know!" she chirped. "Special flowers! They make soft, dappled light."
"Sun-Dapplers!" she explained. "Their big leaves filter the sun. They make perfect little shadows."
Oliver felt a tiny spark of hope. "Really?" he whispered. "Could they help me?"
"Come on!" Rosie chirped, flying ahead. Oliver slowly followed, blinking in the bright air.
