Noah loved summer nights. He sat by his window, a small boy with messy brown hair, listening. The air hummed with a secret orchestra. *Chirp-chirp-chirp!* It was the crickets' song, his favorite sound in the whole wide world.

Sometimes, Noah found words tricky. They tumbled out, or got stuck, making him feel shy. But with the crickets, he didn't need to speak. Their music understood him perfectly, a gentle lullaby just for him.

Each evening, as the sun dipped low, Noah waited. The first chirp was like a tiny bell ringing. Soon, a thousand tiny voices joined, weaving a blanket of sound. It wrapped around him, warm and safe, making his heart feel light.

Then, a new sound began. *BANG! CLANG! WHIRR!* It rumbled from beyond the trees, a loud, busy noise that shook his windowpane. Dust motes danced in the air, even inside his quiet room.

The big noises grew louder each day. And slowly, Noah noticed something else. The cricket chorus wasn't as strong. Their song, once so full, now sounded thin, like a whisper. He strained to hear them.

One evening, he crept outside, flashlight in hand. He searched the tall grass, under bushes, near the old stone wall. But the familiar chirps were few and far between. A cold knot of worry tightened in his tummy.

The next afternoon, Isabella bounced into his yard. Her red curls flew as she ran. "Noah! Want to explore?" she signed, her green eyes sparkling. She saw his quiet, sad face right away.

Noah tried to tell her about the crickets. "Th-th-they're... g-g-going..." he stammered, his words tangling. Isabella gently touched his arm. She signed, "Take your time. I'm listening."

He took a deep breath. "The c-c-crickets," he managed, "the c-construction... it's too loud. I think they're l-leaving." Isabella nodded, her face serious. She understood.

Isabella jumped up. "We can't let them leave!" she declared, her voice full of determination. "Animals need safe homes. We have to help them, Noah! We can make a new home."

They sat in the grass. Isabella talked about what animals need: shelter, food, water. Noah remembered where he usually found crickets: under logs, in damp leaves. He drew little pictures in his notebook.

"We can build them a special place," Isabella grinned. "Right here in your backyard, Noah! A quiet, safe spot, just for crickets." Noah's eyes widened. A new home for his tiny friends!

They became a team. Isabella found old logs and flat stones. Noah carefully gathered fallen leaves and twigs, perfect for hiding. They even found a shallow dish for water, a tiny pond for thirsty crickets.

Isabella dug a small hollow for the water dish. Noah arranged the leaves and twigs just so, creating cozy tunnels. He knew crickets loved dark, damp places. They worked side-by-side, a perfect pair.
