📖 Read the Story

Mr. Putter lived in a quiet cottage, tucked beside a whispering woods. He loved old books, warm tea, and the gentle hum of his garden. His days were peaceful and slow.

But Mr. Putter was not alone. He had a very special friend, a pet named Hong. Hong was a tiny, shimmering cloud of light, always changing colors like a secret rainbow.

Every morning, Hong would float beside Mr. Putter as he made breakfast. Its soft glow filled the kitchen with gentle warmth. They shared quiet moments, understanding each other without words.

Hong loved to drift among the flowers in the garden. But if anyone else came near, even a friendly neighbor, Hong would quickly dim its light and hide, disappearing like a wisp of mist.

Mr. Putter understood Hong’s shyness. He never pushed his little friend to be brave or to show itself. He knew Hong needed quiet and safety above all else.

Sometimes, Mr. Putter wished others could see Hong’s magic. But Hong’s happiness was more important. He simply cherished their shared, secret world, full of soft light and quiet joy.

One afternoon, Mr. Putter discovered his special Starflower tea jar was empty. He needed to visit the bustling village market to buy more. It was the only place to find it.

Mr. Putter is putting on his moss-green coat by the front door. Hong is clinging close to him, its light very faint, almost transparent. Mr. Putter gently pats the air near Hong.

“I’ll be back soon, little light,” Mr. Putter whispered, closing the garden gate. Hong watched him go, feeling a quiet loneliness settle over the empty cottage.

Hong floated slowly through the quiet, sunlit rooms of the cottage, its light very dim. It passes a bookshelf, then a comfy armchair, looking lost and small.

Then, through the bay window, Hong saw something new. A small child, Lily, stood beneath a tall oak tree, her shoulders slumped. Her beautiful, rainbow-colored kite was caught high in the branches.

Lily looked so sad. Hong had never seen a child so close, or felt such a strong pull to help. A tiny, warm spark flickered within Hong, a feeling it hadn't known before.

Going outside the garden was scary. But the child’s quiet tears made Hong’s inner light glow a little brighter. Could Hong, so small and shy, truly make a difference?

Taking a deep breath (if a light cloud could breathe), Hong floated slowly out of the garden. Each gentle drift was a brave step, moving closer to the tall oak tree and the sad child.
