📖 Read the Story

Maya had hair like a raven's wing, dark and shiny. Every morning, she whispered secrets to the ancient Baobab trees of Sunstone Savannah. They felt like old, wise friends.

She told them about the busy bees, the soaring eagles, and the cool river that wound past her village. The river was the heart of everything, bringing life and laughter to the land.

The river flowed from far away, past her village, and then up to the Sky Clan village. It carried messages and friendship between the two communities, like a silver ribbon.

One sunny morning, Maya skipped to the riverbank, humming a happy tune. But her song stopped. The water was gone! Only dry, cracked mud remained.

Soon, worried whispers filled Maya's village. "Where is the water?" people asked, their voices tight with fear. "The Sky Clan must have taken it all!"

Fear grew like thorny bushes, sharp and prickly. The river had always connected them, but now its absence felt like a wide, empty space between the villages.

Maya knew this wasn't right. The Sky Clan wouldn't do such a thing. She hurried back to her oldest Baobab friend, seeking comfort and answers.

A tiny voice, soft as rustling leaves, drifted from a nearby branch. "The river has not vanished, little one. It has merely… changed its path."

It was Chroma, the ancient chameleon, his eyes like tiny, knowing jewels that swiveled independently. "The water flows to the Whispering Wind Mesa," he said, his voice calm.

Maya felt a spark of hope ignite within her. "Will you guide me, Chroma?" she asked, her voice steady. Chroma nodded slowly. "Follow the wind's song, and my shifting colors."

They walked for hours, the sun warm on their backs. The savannah slowly changed, becoming rockier, with strange, wind-carved shapes rising from the ground.

Finally, they reached the Whispering Wind Mesa. The air hummed with unseen breezes, and tall stone pillars stood like sleepy, ancient giants guarding the way.

Then, Maya heard it – a joyful splashing sound! It was faint at first, then grew louder, echoing playfully through the canyons and rock formations.

They peeked around a tall, smooth rock. There, in a huge, sparkling pool, sat a giant made of smooth, mossy stones! He was splashing happily.
