Meet Maya! She loved books more than anything. Her pigtails bounced when she read.
One sunny morning, Maya visited Farmer Giles's farm. "Moo!" went the cows.
She saw many happy animals. But one cow, Bess, looked very quiet.
Bess had soft brown eyes and a black-and-white coat. She stood alone by the fence.
Maya asked Farmer Giles, "Why is Bess so sad?" He sighed softly.
"Bess misses her best friend, Daisy," Farmer Giles explained. "Daisy moved to another farm."
Maya understood. Missing a friend was a very big, sad feeling.
"Let's write a letter!" Maya declared. Farmer Giles looked surprised, then smiled.
Together, they wrote to Daisy. "Dear Daisy, I miss you! Love, Bess."
Farmer Giles sent the letter. Soon, a reply came! Daisy missed Bess too!
