Lucia and Cookie's Unforgettable Reunion

Lucia, nine, lived in Willow Creek Cottage. Her best friend was Cookie, a fluffy, scruffy dog with one floppy ear. They were inseparable!

Cookie loved chasing butterflies. Lucia loved telling Cookie secrets. "You're the best listener, Cookie," she'd whisper, giggling.

One sunny morning, Mom said, "We're moving, dearies! To a brand new house!" Lucia's heart did a little flip-flop.

Moving day was a whirlwind of boxes! Dad tripped over a rug. Mom tried to organize everything with her super-duper list.

"Where's Cookie?" Lucia asked, suddenly worried. "Cookie!" Mom called. "Cookie, where are you, sweet pea?"

Cookie was gone! He must have slipped out during the moving chaos. Lucia's eyes welled up. "My Cookie!"

Mom tried first. She printed "LOST DOG" flyers with a picture of Cookie wearing a tiny, very silly party hat. "Very official!" she declared.

Dad tried next. He invented a "Cookie-Finder 5000" – a giant magnet on a fishing rod. It only attracted spoons.

Little brother JJ, five, wanted to help too! He left a trail of sticky jellybeans, hoping Cookie would follow them home.

"Here, Cookie! Jellybeans!" JJ shouted. A flock of pigeons swooped down instead, gobbling them all up. Oh dear!

Days turned into weeks, weeks into months. Lucia missed Cookie terribly. Her new, neat room felt empty without him.

Years zoomed by like speedy rockets! Lucia grew taller, her pigtails became a long, swishy ponytail. She was eighteen!
