Lily and the Little Lost Cheep
A kind-hearted girl named Lily discovers a vulnerable baby bird fallen from its nest and embarks on a gentle quest to safely return it to its worried mother.
📖 Read the Story
Lily loved exploring her neighborhood park. Every sunny afternoon, she would wander the winding paths, her eyes scanning for tiny treasures. She always found something new to discover.
Today, the air hummed with busy bees, and the flowers smelled sweet. Lily noticed a ladybug climbing a tall blade of grass, then a bright blue butterfly fluttering past her nose.
Suddenly, a tiny, faint sound caught her attention. It was a soft, high-pitched *cheep, cheep*, different from the usual chirps of the grown-up birds. Lily stopped, listening carefully.
She followed the sound, her heart beating a little faster. There, on the cool green grass, was a tiny baby bird. It was so small, mostly covered in soft fluff, and looked very lost.
A pang of worry fluttered in Lily’s chest. This little bird was much too small to be on its own. It wobbled slightly, its tiny beak opening for another helpless *cheep*.
Lily looked up, up, into the tall, leafy branches of the grand oak tree. High above, she spotted a small, messy nest, woven with twigs and soft moss. That must be where it belonged.
What should she do? Lily remembered her Grandma telling her stories about helping animals. "Wild babies often need their parents," Grandma would say, "but sometimes they need a little help too."
Grandma’s first rule was always: "Before you do anything, check if it’s hurt." Lily carefully looked at the tiny bird's wings and legs. She didn't want to scare it.
The little bird seemed okay, just scared and a bit wobbly. Its eyes were bright, and it didn't have any scrapes. It just looked like it had taken an unexpected tumble.
Grandma also said, "If it's safe and not hurt, try to put it back in its nest." But the nest was so far up! Lily was not tall enough, not even on her tiptoes.
Lily looked around, thinking hard. How could she reach? Her eyes landed on a sturdy, green garden stool, left near a patch of bright red tulips by the park gardener.
Carefully, Lily walked over to the stool. It was a little heavy, but she managed to pull it across the grass, closer to the grand oak tree and the little bird.
She climbed onto the stool. Now, she was much taller! With gentle, cupped hands, she carefully scooped up the fluffy baby bird. It felt so light and fragile.
Slowly, so slowly, Lily stretched her arms up towards the nest. She gently lowered the little bird, tucking it carefully back into its soft, warm home, right where it belonged.
