Leo, a boy whose hair always looked like a startled squirrel had nested there, was deep in a comic book adventure. He was sprawled across the squashy, floral sofa, his mismatched socks wiggling with excitement. Today, the Super-Duper Space Squirrel was battling a giant, grumpy moon-monster.

Suddenly, a strange noise rumbled through the quiet living room. It wasn't the moon-monster's roar, nor the space squirrel's laser zap. It was a low, mournful sound, like a very sad foghorn trying to sing a lullaby. Leo paused, one eyebrow raised, a smudge of jam on his cheek.

"Mroooowww-whine-sniffle..." The sound came from behind the big, comfy sofa. Leo carefully peered over the back. What could possibly be making such a dramatic noise? He squinted, trying to see into the dusty shadows.

He slid off the cushions and dropped to his knees. The mournful sound continued, a symphony of canine despair. Leo crawled closer, his mismatched socks disappearing under the sofaโ€™s frilly skirt. He was determined to find the source of the sorrow.

There he was! Sir Reginald Fluffington III, or Reggie for short, was wedged behind the sofa, looking like the saddest dog in the entire universe. His shaggy brown fur was ruffled, and his big, brown eyes were overflowing with theatrical misery.

Reggie let out another heart-wrenching whine. Then, his tummy joined in, making a sound like a tiny earthquake. "GRUMBLE-RUMBLE!" it went. Leo understood immediately. Reggie wasn't sad; he was just incredibly, unbelievably hungry!

"Oh, Reggie!" Leo exclaimed. "You're not stuck, you're just... hungry!" Reggie nodded his head slowly, as if to say, "Precisely, my dear boy. A most dire predicament." Leo, being the kindest boy, knew he had to help. But how?

Leo zoomed into the kitchen, a whirlwind of kindness and speed. He knew Reggie's favourite treat: Crunchy Canine Crackers! They were shaped like little bones and made a satisfying *CRUNCH* when Reggie ate them. He grabbed the box.

Back at the sofa, Leo tried to reach Reggie. He stretched his arm as far as it could go, holding a cracker like a precious jewel. But the gap was too narrow, and his arm was too short. Reggie watched, his eyes following the cracker's every wobble.

The cracker is stuck halfway under the sofa. It went halfway, then got stuck! Reggie let out a frustrated "huff!" and tried to nudge it with his nose, but it just wouldn't budge. This was harder than battling moon-monsters!

"Aha!" Leo declared. "A different approach!" He wound up like a baseball pitcher and tossed a cracker over the sofa. *WHIZZ!* It sailed through the air, then bounced off Leo's own head. Reggie tilted his head, looking utterly bewildered.

Leo sighed. Clearly, brute force and simple throws weren't going to work. He needed something... more ingenious. He scanned the living room, his eyes darting from his toy chest to the bookshelf, until they landed on a small, plastic catapult.

"Eureka!" Leo whispered, a mischievous grin spreading across his face. He grabbed his toy catapult, usually used for launching tiny plastic knights. With a roll of tape and a small plastic spoon, he began to modify it. Behold: The Snack-a-pult!

Leo carefully loaded a Crunchy Canine Cracker onto the spoon. "Prepare for launch, Sir Reginald!" he announced with a flourish. Reggie, from his dusty hideaway, watched with a mix of suspicion and desperate hope. His stomach rumbled again.

*TWANG!* Leo pressed the lever. The cracker flew! But instead of landing gracefully in front of Reggie, it hit the wall above his head with a soft *thwack*. Reggie yelped, startled, and ducked his head. Leo winced. "Oops. Aiming practice needed."

*TWANG!* Another cracker. This one sailed too high, arcing over the sofa and landing right next to Leo. Reggie, seeing his prize, made a valiant but clumsy attempt to climb over the sofa. His paws scrabbled, his tail wagged furiously.

"Third time's the charm!" Leo declared, adjusting his aim. *TWANG!* This time, the cracker flew perfectly, landing with a gentle bounce right in front of Reggie's nose. Reggie's eyes widened, his tongue shot out, and *CRUNCH!* He devoured it instantly.
