📖 Read the Story

Kiri the Kākā loved her forest home. Her beautiful feathers shone in the warm sun.

Soon, she would have a special baby. A tiny, precious chick to care for!

Kiri searched for the perfect, safest place. High in a tall, strong kowhai tree.

She gathered soft green moss and tiny twigs. Her strong beak worked very hard.

The nest was now warm and very snug. A perfect, secret bed for her baby.

One day, a little, pale egg appeared. Kiri kept it safe and wonderfully warm.

*Tap, tap, tap!* A tiny beak poked out. Hello, little Pīpī! "Cheep!"

Pīpī was small and very, very hungry. "Cheep, cheep!" he cried softly.

Kiri knew just what special food to find. Sweet nectar from the kowhai flowers!

She dipped her beak into the golden bells. The sweet nectar was so delicious!
