📖 Read the Story

Jia lived on a sunny island, where the ocean sparkled like a thousand diamonds. Her heart was as bright as the sun!

She loved the warm breezes that rustled through the lush green leaves of her garden. Everything grew so tall here.

Soon, it would be monsoon season! The island waited for the big, important rains to arrive.

But Jia felt a little nervous. The monsoon winds could be strong, making the palm trees bend and sway.

"Apo Lito," she whispered, "I don't like the big winds." Her grandfather smiled, his eyes full of warmth.

"Ah, Jia," he said softly. "The winds bring the rain. Without rain, our beautiful island would not be so green."

"The rain fills the rivers and helps our fruits grow," he explained. "It washes the earth clean."

"Perhaps," Apo Lito mused, "we can make friends with the wind this year. What do you think of a kite?"

Jia's eyes grew wide. "A kite? A big, strong kite to fly in the wind?" she asked, her nervousness fading.

In Apo Lito's workshop, they chose the strongest bamboo. "This will be its backbone," he said.

They cut vibrant fabrics, bright as the island flowers. Jia carefully glued them to the bamboo frame.

Soon, a magnificent kite emerged. It had a long, flowing tail, ready to dance in the sky.

The sky turned a deep grey. Rain began to patter softly on the leaves. "It's time, Jia," Apo Lito said.

The wind whistled, growing stronger. Jia held the kite string, her heart beating like a drum.
