This is Jack. Jack had messy brown hair and bright blue eyes. Sometimes, Jack was a bit of a tricky boy. He liked things his own way, always.
"Jack, please clean your room," his mom said gently. Jack just crossed his arms tight. "No! I will not clean my room," he declared loudly.
Later, Dad called, "Come here, Jack, it's time to eat!" Jack looked at his plate. "I wanted pancakes!" he grumbled, pushing his chair back.
At school, Jack’s friends, Lily and Sam, played a fun game. Jack stomped over. "I don't want to play your game! Let's play *my* game," he insisted.
Even his loyal dog, Buster, heard Jack's bossy voice. "Time to come in!" Jack yelled, not seeing Buster's droopy ears. Jack didn't know his words could make others feel small.
The very next morning, Jack went to school. At break time, he puffed out his chest. "Let's play *my* game!" he announced, looking all powerful.
Lily and Sam looked at each other. They took a deep breath. Then, together, they said, "NO!" Their voices were clear and firm.
Jack was completely shocked! His jaw dropped. No one, not ever, had said "no" to him before like that. He felt a funny, confused feeling.
That night, in his bed, Jack couldn't stop thinking. Why did they say no? He felt a little sad and very, very confused. What was wrong?
He drifted off to sleep, still wondering. Soon, he had a crazy dream. He was in a strange, new place, not in his cozy bed at all.
Jack stood in a mysterious, glowing forest. Strange, ancient trees whispered secrets. The leaves shimmered with soft light, and he heard faint, airy calls, like his name.
Suddenly, a tiny, shimmering creature with rainbow wings, a Glimmerwing, fluttered by. It dropped a tiny, glowing scroll right at Jack's feet, then zipped away.
Jack carefully picked up the scroll. It glowed softly. On it were three simple symbols: a messy room, a stack of pancakes, and a game controller. What could they mean?
The Glimmerwing reappeared, hovering. It gently pointed a tiny wing towards a winding path deeper into the glowing woods. Jack felt a strange pull of curiosity.
