Hina, a girl with a bright hibiscus in her hair, sat by the sparkling blue ocean. She loved her home in sunny Hawaii.
Every morning, Hina explored the secret worlds of the tide pools. Tiny fish, scuttling crabs, and colorful sea stars lived there.
She knew every colorful coral, every waving anemone. The tide pools were her special, magical place to visit.
One sunny morning, Hina noticed something strange. Her favorite pink coral, shaped like a tiny brain, looked different.
It wasn't pink anymore. It was pale, almost white! Other corals in the tide pool looked white too.
Hina felt a little worried. Why were her beautiful ocean friends losing their bright, happy colors?
She saw a shiny plastic bottle floating nearby. Then a wrapper, and a fishing line tangled on a rock.
Hina remembered hearing grown-ups talk about "pollution." Could this trash be hurting her precious coral?
Her heart felt a little heavy. The ocean was so big, but even small things could make a difference.
Hina decided she had to help. She couldn't let her colorful tide pool friends disappear forever.
She ran home and called her friends, Koa and Leilani. "Our ocean needs us!" she excitedly explained.
Koa, with his curly hair, grabbed a sturdy bucket. Leilani, with her long braids, found some strong gloves.
Together, they walked to the beach with their gear. "Let's make our ocean sparkle again!" Hina cheered.
They carefully picked up plastic bottles, old sandals, and bits of fishing net. No trash was too small.
