Flora, a dainty fawn with soft brown fur and bright white spots, felt a flutter in her tummy.

Tomorrow was "Big School" day! She worried about leaving her familiar forest home.

Would she know anyone? Would she miss her comfy bed and the rustle of the leaves?

"My sweet Flora," Grandma Doe's warm voice filled the air. She was a wise old deer.

Grandma Doe saw Flora's worried frown. "What troubles your gentle heart, little one?"

Flora whispered, "I'm scared of Big School, Grandma. I'll miss our forest."

Grandma Doe smiled. "Why don't we play 'Little Forest School' today?" she suggested.

"You can teach your friends all about our wonderful forest, just like a teacher!"

Flora's ears perked up. "Teach Barnaby Bear and Pip Squirrel?" she wondered, a tiny spark of interest growing.

Flora gathered her students: Barnaby Bear, Pip Squirrel, and wise Hoot Owl.

She found a smooth, flat stone for her "chalkboard" and pretty pebbles for "markers."

"Welcome to Little Forest School!" Flora announced, her voice a little shy but firm.

"Today, we will learn about leaves!" Flora held up a bright green maple leaf.

"This is a maple leaf. See its pointy parts? It's different from an oak leaf."
