Deep within the Whispering Woods lived Ember, a little dragon whose scales shimmered like a pile of freshly fallen maple leaves. Ember loved Autumn more than anything.
Oh, the crisp air! The crunchy leaves underfoot! The warm, golden sunlight that painted the forest in hues of fire and honey. Ember would spend hours twirling amongst the trees.
But as the days grew shorter, Ember noticed something worrying. More leaves were falling, twirling sadly to the ground. The air felt colder, making Ember shiver.
Autumn, Ember's most beloved season, was slowly, quietly, slipping away. Winter, with its chilly breath and bare branches, was peeking around the corner.
Oh no! Ember thought, a tiny puff of smoke escaping their nostrils. I can't let Autumn go! I must make it stay forever! Ember felt a strong determination.
First, Ember tried to warm the trees. They puffed gentle, warm breaths onto the branches, hoping to glue the colorful leaves right back on.
But the leaves, light as feathers, continued their slow dance to the forest floor. Ember watched them fall, feeling a little puzzled and defeated.
Next, Ember tried to keep the sun high in the sky. As it dipped towards the horizon, Ember pushed with their snout, grunting softly. 'Stay, sun, stay!'
The sun, however, continued its gentle descent, painting the clouds in fiery hues before disappearing completely. The forest grew dim. Ember sighed, a cloud of warm air.
Ember had one last idea! They gathered all the fallen leaves, piling them higher and higher, hoping to build a giant, warm wall against the coming cold.
The leaf pile was magnificent, a mountain of reds and golds! But a chilly gust of wind still swept through the woods, making Ember shiver right down to their tail.
From a high branch of an ancient oak, a wise old owl named Willow had watched Ember's efforts. Willow's golden eyes twinkled with gentle understanding.
Ember looked up, a little embarrassed. 'I just don't want Autumn to go, Willow,' Ember confessed, their voice a soft rumble. 'It's my favorite.'
Willow hooted softly, a sound like rustling leaves. 'But dear Ember,' Willow said, 'Winter brings its own quiet magic, a beauty unlike any other.'
