Cricket and the Shadow Hunters

Cricket was a tiny bug with giant, round spectacles. He loved his cozy garden, but one thing made his antennae twitch with worry.

Beyond the garden fence, the big, shadowy forest loomed. At dusk, its dark shapes looked like scary monsters to Cricket.

"Oh dear," he'd whisper, pulling his spectacles up his nose. "What if a shadow monster comes to get me?"

His older sister, Beetle, was brave and shiny. Her shell sparkled like a jewel. She always knew what to do.

"Don't worry, little brother," Beetle chirped. "Tonight, we'll play a new game. We'll be 'Shadow Hunters'!"

Cricket blinked, his spectacles slipping. "Shadow Hunters?" he asked, his voice small. "But shadows are so big and scary!"

"Not when you know their secrets!" Beetle winked. "We'll find them, look closely, and make up funny stories."

As the sun dipped low, long shadows stretched across the grass. Cricket clutched Beetle's wing tightly.

"Look!" Beetle whispered, pointing. "A giant, lumpy blob! What do you think it is?"

Cricket squinted. "A sleeping giant?" he gulped. Beetle giggled. "Or a watering can, taking a nap after watering flowers!"

They crept on. Another shadow appeared, tall and pointy. "A grumpy wizard!" Cricket whispered, hiding.

Beetle peered. "Or a garden gnome, wearing a silly hat, trying to catch fireflies!" Cricket giggled a little.

Next, a huge, wobbly shadow stretched across the path. Cricket's heart thumped. "A monster with wobbly legs!"
