Claudia, a girl with a heart full of stories, arrived at the Grand Stage Acting Club. Her bright, curious eyes, framed by a fringe of dark hair, scanned the old building. A mix of excitement and nerves bubbled inside her. She clutched her worn backpack, its straps digging slightly into her shoulders, ready for her very first day. Today felt important.

The club was housed in an old, grand hall, usually reserved for town meetings. High ceilings disappeared into shadows, and dusty velvet curtains hung heavily on either side of a wide stage. The air smelled of old wood, forgotten dreams, and a hint of something magical. It felt a little bit spooky, but mostly thrilling.

A woman with a flowing purple scarf and sparkling, kind eyes greeted them. This was Ms. Evelyn, the club leader. "Welcome, future stars!" she boomed, her voice like a warm, theatrical melody. "Today, we'll explore the secrets of our club's long and wonderful history!"

Claudia saw other children. Leo, with his neat, dark hair and serious glasses, was already sketching in a small notebook, looking very focused. Maya, with her bouncy, bright red curls and a wide smile, was already giggling with another girl. Claudia felt a little shy, but also eager to make friends.

Ms. Evelyn led them backstage. "This is where the real magic happens!" she announced, her arms sweeping wide. They passed towering stacks of old scenery flats, racks overflowing with colourful costumes, and shelves crammed with peculiar hats and wigs. It was a wonderland of forgotten things.

They entered a dimly lit prop closet. It was crammed from floor to ceiling with fascinating objects: a shiny pirate's chest, a tall wizard's hat, a tiny porcelain doll with one missing eye. "Every prop has a story," Ms. Evelyn whispered, her voice hushed, "just waiting to be told."

Ms. Evelyn pointed to an empty, velvet-covered pedestal in the centre of the closet. Her voice dropped, becoming serious. "And this," she said, "is where our most treasured prop, the 'Whispering Wand,' usually rests. It's been with the club for generations, a symbol of our creativity!"

The children gasped. "It's gone?" Maya whispered, her wide eyes darting around the shadowy room. Leo adjusted his glasses, a thoughtful frown creasing his brow. Claudia felt a strange thrill of mystery, a tingling sensation in her fingertips. This was more exciting than she'd imagined.

"It's not stolen, I don't think," Ms. Evelyn mused, tapping her chin. "But it's certainly not where it should be. Perhaps it's a little game? A challenge left by a past member, an old tradition to test new recruits?" She winked playfully.

On the empty pedestal, a small, rolled-up scroll was tied with a faded, gold ribbon. Claudia, being closest, reached for it. The paper felt old and brittle, like something important. Her heart thumped a little faster. This was a real clue!

Claudia unrolled the scroll carefully, her fingers trembling slightly. Inside, a riddle was written in elegant, looping script, faded with age: "I guard the secrets of the stage, Where silent stories fill each page. Find me where the light first gleams, Then fades away in actors' dreams."

"Silent stories... actors' dreams?" Maya pondered aloud, her brow furrowed in concentration. Leo tapped his pencil against his notebook, his gaze distant as he thought. "Light first gleams... then fades away..." he murmured, piecing the words together.

Claudia closed her eyes, picturing the stage. She remembered the heavy, dusty velvet curtains. "The curtains!" she exclaimed, her voice suddenly clear and strong. "They open for the light to shine on the stage, and close when the show ends, when the actors' dreams are done!"

"Brilliant, Claudia!" Ms. Evelyn clapped her hands softly. "A true actor's insight!" The children, led by an excited Claudia, hurried out of the prop closet and towards the main stage. Ms. Evelyn smiled, watching them go, a knowing look on her face.

Behind the heavy, crimson curtains, it was surprisingly dark and a little spooky. The air felt still and heavy. Maya shivered, clutching her arms, but her eyes were still wide with curiosity. They carefully parted the thick fabric, searching every fold and crevice.

Leo, ever observant, noticed something. His sharp eyes spotted a loose, shimmering thread on the very edge of the main curtain, near the floor. He tugged gently. With a soft rustle, a small, stiff envelope, tucked into a hidden pocket, slid out.

Inside the envelope wasn't another riddle, but a drawing. It was a detailed sketch of a dressing room mirror, old and ornate, with a tiny, five-pointed star drawn clearly on one of its bottom corners. It was a very specific clue.
