Carlos's Special Birthday Tamales

Meet Carlos! He lived in a sunny Mexican village. His smile had a special gap.

Carlos loved to watch his Abuela cook. Delicious smells always filled their home.

Soon, it was Abuelo’s birthday! Carlos wanted to make a super special gift.

"I know!" he whispered. "Abuelo's favorite tamales!" But he'd never cooked alone.

He found Abuela in the garden. "Can I make them, Abuela?" he asked hopefully.

Abuela smiled. "Of course, mi corazón," she said. "Here is my special recipe."

Carlos gathered everything: dried corn husks, chicken, cheese, and fresh masa.

First, he mixed the masa. It felt soft and squishy between his fingers.

Then, he carefully added the tasty chicken and cheese filling.

Wrapping the tamales was tricky! Some looked a little lumpy.

"Don't worry," Abuela called softly. "Practice makes perfect, miho!"

Finally, a big pile of tamales waited. He placed them gently in the steamer.

Soon, the kitchen filled with a warm, wonderful smell. Carlos waited patiently.
