Hello! My name is Anastasia. I have long, flowing black hair that sometimes dances around my shoulders when I twirl. My favorite dress is a beautiful sky-blue, just like a clear summer morning. It has tiny, shimmering silver stars sewn into the hem, which I like to imagine are wishes waiting to come true. I love my blue dress more than anything!
Every morning, the sun peeks through my window, painting sleepy stripes on my cozy rug. I stretch like a kitten, then carefully choose my blue dress. My mom, with her warm smile and soft brown hair, helps me tie a ribbon in my hair. Today, it’s a bright yellow, like a sunbeam, to match my sunny mood.
After a breakfast of berry pancakes, my tummy feels happy and ready for adventure. My favorite place to go is the park. It’s not far from our house, just a little walk past the whispering oak trees and the giggling stream. I always skip a little, my blue dress swishing with every happy hop.
The park is a magical place. There’s a towering slide that feels like flying, a sandy sandbox perfect for building castles, and my very best friend: the swing set. Two sturdy swings hang from a tall metal frame, just waiting for me to leap aboard and touch the sky. It calls to me every day.
I run to my favorite swing, the one with the slightly squeaky chain. I push off with my feet, higher and higher! The wind tickles my cheeks and whispers secrets in my ears. I close my eyes and pretend I’m a soaring bird, or a brave astronaut on a mission to the moon, far, far away.
Up and down, up and down! The world blurs into a happy green and blue smudge. I can almost touch the fluffy white clouds. Sometimes, I imagine they are giant cotton candy castles, or friendly dragons floating by. It’s my secret, special game, and it makes my heart feel light.
Soon, familiar voices call my name. "Anastasia!" It’s Leo, with his bright, mischievous eyes and a grin that always promises fun. And beside him, Lily, with her long, braided red hair and quiet, thoughtful gaze. They are my best friends in the whole wide world, and I'm so glad they're here.
Leo immediately wants to climb the climbing frame, a tangle of ropes and bars he calls "Mount Everest." Lily finds a sunny spot under the big oak tree, pulling out her small, worn sketchbook and a box of colorful crayons. We all have our favorite ways to play at the park.
I join Leo for a while, pretending the climbing frame is a pirate ship sailing on a stormy sea. "Ahoy, matey!" I shout, my voice echoing through the park. Leo laughs, swinging from a rope like a daring buccaneer. We are searching for hidden treasure, a chest full of sparkling jewels!
But soon, my imagination takes me somewhere new. I see a butterfly with wings like stained glass fluttering near Lily. "Look!" I whisper, "It's a tiny fairy delivering a secret message to the flowers!" I wish Leo would see it too, but he’s already off to the slide, whooshing down.
Sometimes, my ideas feel a little too big for just me. Leo loves to run and jump, and Lily loves to draw what she sees. My mind often builds whole worlds inside my head. I wonder if they ever visit those worlds too, or if I'm the only one who sees fairy messages and cloud dragons.
I walk over to Lily. She's carefully drawing a picture of the oak tree, every leaf and branch perfectly placed. Her red braid falls over her shoulder as she concentrates. She looks up and gives me a small, gentle smile, then goes back to her drawing, her crayon moving softly.
I sit beside her, watching her crayon dance across the page. "That tree," I say softly, "it looks like it has wise old eyes, watching over the whole park." Lily pauses, her crayon hovering. She looks at the tree, then back at her drawing, a new idea sparking in her quiet eyes.
Lily doesn't say much, but she adds two tiny, knowing circles to the trunk of her oak tree. Then she draws a small, friendly squirrel peeking out from behind one of the 'eyes.' She holds up her sketchbook for me to see. It's exactly how I imagined it! My heart warms.
A warm feeling spreads through me. Lily understood! She saw the magic in the tree, just like I did. We sit for a while, pointing out other secret things: a cloud shaped like a sleeping dragon, a patch of flowers that look like tiny dancing fairies. We shared a quiet, secret world.
Suddenly, Leo slides to a stop beside us, a little out of breath. "What are you two doing?" he asks, his eyes wide with curiosity. He sees Lily's drawing. "Wow! That squirrel looks like he's guarding a treasure map! What kind of treasure do you think it is?"
Lily giggles, a soft, happy sound. "Maybe he is!" I add, feeling brave. "And the treasure is the best acorn in the whole park!" Leo's eyes light up. "Let's find it!" he shouts, and off he dashes, looking under every bush, with us following close behind, laughing together.
