Amelia had sparkling eyes and bouncy pigtails. She loved her Granny Morag's stories.
Granny told tales of their family, brave lighthouse keepers in Scotland.
"The light guides ships home," Granny would whisper. "It keeps them safe from the rocks."
Amelia often visited the tall lighthouse with her Dad. She learned all its secrets.
One morning, a thick, grey fog rolled in, swallowing the little town whole.
Night fell, but the lighthouse lamp flickered, then went dark! Oh no!
Dad tried and tried. "It's stuck, Amelia," he sighed, wiping his brow.
Amelia remembered Granny's words: "Every part has a purpose, Amelia. Look closely!"
She saw a tiny, loose gear, just like Granny had shown her in old drawings.
"Granny said this little gear makes the light spin!" Amelia exclaimed.
