Princess Amara, with skin like sunshine and braids like night, loved her palace garden. She giggled among the bright flowers.
But when the sun dipped low, painting the sky in deep purples, a shiver ran through her. She was scared of the dark.
Her kind friend, Mateo, often played with her. He was clever, always smiling, and loved to explore.
One blustery autumn evening, dark, swirling clouds rolled in. They painted the sky a gloomy, deep gray.
Rain lashed against the tall palace windows. *CRACK!* The palace lights flickered, then went out.
“Oh no!” Amara whispered, her heart thumping like a drum. The dark palace felt big and scary.
A gentle knock. “Amara? It’s Mateo.” His voice was a warm, steady light in the gloom.
“Don’t worry,” Mateo said softly. “I know how to bring light back. Follow me!”
He led her carefully, hand-in-hand, through the shadowy hallways and out into the damp garden.
Mateo pulled out small, clear jars. “Tonight, the garden has special magic,” he whispered.
Suddenly, tiny lights blinked in the damp air! Fireflies danced like golden sprinkles all around them.
One by one, the jars began to glow. A soft, warm light filled the darkness they held.
Amara gasped. “They’re like tiny stars!” Her fear began to melt away, replaced by wonder.
They gathered more, creating a trail of living lanterns along the winding garden path.
