📖 Read the Story

Aisha had hair like sunshine, bright and curly, a warm cinnamon bun on her head. Her nimble fingers could fold paper into delicate cranes.

Outside, the big city shivered. Tall buildings touched the frosty sky, and winter winds whispered icy secrets down the streets.

Every day, Mr. Kim sold newspapers on the corner. He was an elderly man with kind eyes that crinkled when he smiled.

Aisha often saw him. He wore the same thin coat, and his lips were sometimes a little blue. Her kind heart felt a tiny ache.

“He needs something warm,” she thought, her brow furrowed. “A cozy, woolly scarf, perhaps!”

Scarves cost coins, and Aisha had none. She looked at her paper, then at her cranes. Then, her eyes sparkled with an idea!

She folded paper, red, blue, and gold. Each crane was a tiny wish for warmth, made with careful, nimble fingers.

Her room filled with a flock of paper birds. They gleamed like jewels in the lamplight, waiting to fly to new homes.

The next day, Aisha set up a small table outside her home. “Paper cranes for sale!” she called softly, her voice a little shy.

People hurried past, bundled in coats, their breath puffing white in the cold air. Her little cranes waited patiently.

Then, a kind lady with a warm smile stopped. “Oh, how lovely!” she said, buying a bright blue one. Aisha’s heart fluttered with hope.

Slowly, coins clinked into her small jar. Each one brought Mr. Kim closer to a warm, woolly scarf.

Soon, other children stopped to watch Aisha. “What are you doing, Aisha?” asked Leo, a boy with a bright blue hat.

Aisha told them about Mr. Kim’s shivers, and her dream of a warm, woolly scarf. Her voice was soft but clear.
